How early is it safe to use Mederma scar cream on my 4 year old daughter?

Question: Our Plastic Surgeon said that we should only apply any ointments after 4 weeks, but the instructions for Mederma says that it is safe to use after the wound is completely healed. It has been 2.5 weeks since the accident. The stitches have all disolved and their is no open wound. Does this mean that is completely healed? Should I start using the product now, or listen to the Surgeon? The scar is beginning to turn quite red.

It's safe to use once the scab falls off and its just pink. I would follow what your surgeon says though, just in case.
