Leg pains?

Question:
My five year old daughter is having leg pains. She complains about them all the time. I myself have RLS. Is it heridatary? Growing pains? I never belived in them but my husband says he had them growing up. We use a natural muscle rub on her and mine legs. She gets pleanty of exercise, she gets a healthy amout of salt in her diet, and I have tried ice, warm compresses, and children's motrin. Any body got any ideas? I havn't taken her to her docter about it yet but I am woundering if maybe I should.

Answers:
Sometimes leg pain can be the result of pinched nerves in the spinal chord. Chiropractic ex-rays would tell you if there is anything wrong in her back or hips. I'm getting ready to take my nine year old in for the same thing. She wakes up in the middle of the night screaming and crying from leg pain. She also gets plenty of exercise, fluids, etc. Blood work is good. So the Chiropractor is next for us! I'll be in prayer for you, good luck!

Other Answers:
she might have this type of pneumonia that affects the legs...
I am not a MD, but have concept of medical issues. Please check with a qualified MD quickly. Clots sometimes occur in the legs and can break from there with bad results.
My son had the same kind of thing but grew out of it before it got bad enough to take him to the doctor....i would get her checked out especially if they are keeping her up at night, might be something as small as a vitamin or mineral deficiancy. GL
when my son was about that age, his doctor told him he had Oshgood Slaughters, (i think that is the name, been so long)...but that was on his knees. in the old days, we used to call them growing pains...however,..maybe you should go ahead and take her to the doc just to give you peace of mind...it might also be her shoes, maybe she plays hard and needs really good fitting shoes...anyway,...seems you are doing about the best you can. Good luck
You didn't discribe the pain at all. Is it only when the legs are at rest? Does the discomfort diminish when the legs are in motion? If not, I'd rule out RLS.

I occasionally have problems with RLS. If I take two drugs at once, like an antidepressant with an antihistamine, or alchohol with just about anything, it can trigger RLS.
