Weight issues are everywhere TV, football, magazines. The celebrities are critisized for being too big or too small. There is always a new diet that becomes fashionable. Plus we eat too much convenience food. Generally, people have to realise just to eat less and exercise more. Sorry to hear of your problems coul you learn to love yourself as you are.
I just think its human nature to never be happy with what you have. Youve obviously been through a very tough time and I comend you for staying so strong. I have also been seriously ill and had a hysterectomy last year age 23 but I put on serious amounts of weight and still have 2 stone left to lose.
What im trying to say is most people want to lose or gain weight for a reason even if you never know what it is. We just have to happy with ourselves and ignore those that take it to the extremes. Best wishes xx
Although I'm slim (and underweight too) i can't help but worry about what i eat, and i wish i didn't, because it would be so nice to just eat, say, an ice cream, and not worry about it for the rest of the day. Lots of the females in my family worry too- i think it just must be in my genes. I'm happy with the way i look, but i go to extreme lengths to keep it that way, and it can be very stressful. I think people of all body shapes worry (unnecessarily) about what they look like, and it can make people's lives a misery. I think magazines should stop promoting diets and slimming pills etc, because it is sending out the wrong message- that you should never be satisfied with what you look like.
Good luck though- i hope you get happier!
Most people wouldn't know how to question authority if it were on the other end of a knock knock joke.

People focus on these things because they are told to. They are told from birth, in many subtle ways, that weight is important, and that fad diets and pills are the best way to lose it. They are told by new doctors on TV (with a caption that actually says "Class of 2005") that health-damaging pills work. They aren't taught that muscle weighs more than fat, that health is more important than weight, that your body needs all different types of foods to survive and that cutting any part of your diet is dangerous, and that everyone's body is different and that variety is what makes the world beautiful.

Throughout history, if you look at artwork of beautiful women, they are not skinny and hungry-looking - they are plump and curvy. Beauty standards are culturally based, and in our culture, unfortunately, thinness to the point of sickliness is considered attractive, while the old standards of beauty are now considered unpleasant.

Personally I find beauty to be more based on a person's personality than their physical appearance. It would be nice if the rest of the world felt this way as well, but that is not likely to happen as long as our culture focuses on the things it does.
