Does anyone know why excess stomach acid is caused?
Question:
Answers:
There are lots of causes, I have been suffering with a heatis hernia for over 2 years now, Mostly caused by stress or anxiety but there is a bug under the Latin name of helobactre pylori ( not sure if that is the exact spelling) which can cause a mass production of stomach acids, but also different foods and stomach ulcers can also make it worse. IF you are suffering from this i suggest going to your GP ASAP and make sure u also ask for the pylori test. If you catch it now after a course of ranitadine and possibly some anti biotics it should clear up before like myself you end up with a heatis hernia for life..
I now have to sleep on four pillows to keep my head up so as to stop the acid reflux.
Also Drinking and smoking really aren't good for it, especially drinks like white wine and cider are definite no No's!

The acidity and cause or of a condiments food, or problems of anxiety!!
I think you mean excess stomach acid which is causes by stress. Gavoson or renne will do the trick as both have chalky residues which help reduce acid build but. If the acid build up continues then they will investigate it might be a stomach ulcer which they can get rid of with a minor op.OK
1. Diet is a major cause.
2. Stress.
stress/ diet/peptic ulcers/infection-H.pylori/gast... carcinoma/hiatus hernias/.....many pathology cause dyspepsia/heartburn...suggest you check out Kumar &Clarck, Clinical medicinetextbook, fifth edition pages 270 -280 for how acid is produced.
I take lansoprazole for my stomach acid problem.
There are quite a few tablets out there the doctor can choose from. Gaviscon is also a medication for it.
I had to have an endoscopy a tube down my throat into my stomach to see why I had so much reflux acid, it was a hiatus hernia that was causing mine.
I have put a link in that can explain it better than me. :)
Hope this helps.
Other possible causes of excess stomach acid are linked to smoking - drinking - being over weight - eating large me als too fast - eating late night meals -eating spicy and hot food stuff - stress - wearing tight restricting clothes.
If symptoms persist despite the present treatment of gaviscon you should tell your GP of your recent worries with several life style changes you may need not require further drugs but please consult your GP.
Try eating smaller portions of a balanced diet at regular times, avoiding spicy and hot curries etc., fried foods. You can wear looser clothes and lose weight if necessary to help, don't eat after 8 pm - avoid smoking and alcohol if applicably to you and sleep in slight up-right position, reduce stress from your life if possible - take up yoga medication or listen to relaxation tapes to relax or illuminate stress from your life whatever that cause may be or make changes if necessary. Raise the head of you bed with books etc., rather than using more pillows to keep you sleeping position slightly raised which helps.
These changes should avoid further prescription only drugs called proton pump inhibitors which reduces the amount of stomach acid produced or even key hole surgery
Hope you fell well soon.
