This is not a simple answer. the most used are the quads and Hamstrings but most muscles in the body are used. ie the feet when treading on the steps (which include both the front muscles in the leg and the rear ones,calf) also leg muscles, but also back muscles including bum(Gluteous Maximus). for balance,arm muscles if you are holding on to a Bannister, neck muscles if you are looking downstairs!! And many many more!!
