Most people have need to escape their bodies.Some turn to drugs.
Sadly,the human condition assualts us daily with massive doses of trauma.pollutants,yelling bosses,late bill payments etc, & people can fall into traps with abusing substances before they realize what's happened trying to get relief from their worries.Worries that they generally make themselves sick worrying about.
It's lame to be so willing to blast out one's brain .Tragic.
