excellent question -- i know thie aarewer, but first i want to tell you somthing -- people with different "areas of expertise" have different views on numerous items. Case in point one, a police officer will tell you that air friesheners, dice that hang from the rear view mirror, etc. are against the law since they obstruct your view. As you know, you need to make a car comfortable for the driver, so that the driver is happy AND not distracted.

in relation to your question -- Q-tips have been around (at least since I was born) -- probably forever (or so it seems). they are a fine way to clean your ear drums -- as long as you don't go too far into the ear canal. BIG MEDICINE (or whatever you want to call it) wants you to stop using inexpensive Q-tips and use expensive Debrox or other forms of liquid ear-wax
remover.

your not supposed to stick anything in your ears as a child my mom cleaned my ears with a bobby pin.

If my kids complain i put a couple drops of sweet oil in their ear then q-tip it out.

You shouldn't need to clean your ears at all. Ear canals are self-cleaning and earwax will move on its own out of the ear if you just leave it alone (it will dry up and fall out -- you won't notice this process at all and neither will anybody else). When you have problems with earwax build-up is when you are jamming things into your ears all the time to try to clean it out. This pushes the earwax deeper into the ear, which is when you get a blockage.

The only thing you should do to an ear is wash the outside of it when you're showering. For this, you just use your finger.

because the cotton gets stuck in them and then to the dr. you go and have to have them cleaned out, also it effects the ears and water begains to come out then you have another problem,
they say the best thing to put in your ears is your elbo , ever herd of that?. think about it.
