Answers:
Hi: my daughter had three bouts of lice, because of her habit of sharing hats, brushes and scarves while playing with her friends...by trial and error I have learnt what works and what doesn't.

First and foremost, DO NOT use any drugstore preparation like RID or NIX. There are too many health risks associated, and the scalp has a very high permeability to substances deposited on it.
Most importantly, due to the life-cycle of the lice, if you don't physically remove the eggs (nits) they don't work.

Second, go to a health store and purchase a bottle of Tea Tree essential oil and one of Oregano essential oil. Also, get some vodka. Prepare the following mixture in a glass jar with a recloseable lid (if you have a 4 oz. aromatherapy bottle with dropper even better...):
1/4 cup vodka
10 drops tea tree oil
10 drops oregano oil

In the evening, spend about one hour going throught the hair with a lice comb (Walgreens sells an electric one that makes a noise every time it kills a nit), removing all visible nits. This is the most important part of the treatment: due to the adult-egg lifecycle, any eggs left on hair strands will hatch and produce more egg-laying adults. After removing the nits, rub the vodka-essential oils mix into the scalp. Leave overnight. Shampoo in the morning and apply a rinse made with cider vinegar and about 2 ml. of vodka mix (approx half a teaspoonful).

Repeat every day for two weeks. Yes, it is labor-intensive, but this is the only method that has worked for my daughter when all else failed. Oregano Oil is one of the few substances that is capable of killing 100% of BOTH the egg and the adult, whereas adult lice cannot stand the scent of Tea Tree Oil, so it is bound to leave the head for more pleasant surroundings. So what if your child's head smell like pizza sauce for a couple of weeks? At least you will have used a safe, healthy alternative to pesticides.

One last word of advice: do wash the child's bedding and used clothing DAILY during the treatment. Instruct the child to keep jackets and outerwear away from other children's clothing (the culprit: all those jackets hanging side-by-side on the classroom rack!) and not to share headwear and brushes with ANYONE! Last but not least, a Tea Tree or Peppermint shampoo is a good preventive measure.

Good Luck!
Mayo is the best treatment...
But you also need to totally wash all her linnens....
And lysol her clothing.
All her clothing
Also....
She is getting them from somewhere.... Check with her friends, see if they are the ones giving them to her.
my lil sis had lice and mayonaise worked good
i never got it so id say it did the trick
put mayo on and then wrap with saran wrap like a swami

yea ditto to the guy above
make sure everything is clean even your stuff and things in other rooms
whatever you can wash, wash
You need to wash and sanitize everything in your home with bleach. I mean EVERYTHING! You probably have eggs on anything that your daughter touched.....the bed, the pillows, sheets, comforter, mattress, and even the carpeting.
