Why do people think that health insurance is not needed?

Question:

Answers:
People don't realize how necessary it is until something happens and they get confronted with how expensive medical care is in this country.

Other Answers:
maybe they're uninformed
Because they want to leech off the system.
because they think they won't need it
They think they won't ever get hurt or sick. Which is dumb. Everyone will need it eventually. I went without for the last two years of college and I'm sooooo regretting it now.
they thank that they are in good health
They don't think that, they just think that it is not affordable.
Only stupid people think so!
Because so far nothing has happened to me yet. I am healthy and never went to the hospital for anything serious. I try to avoid hospitals as much as I can.
because they think they are somehow magically
protected form ill health or injury.
Because they can't afford it, so they talk themselves into believing that it is not needed - that they are healthy enough to wing it.
they are playing russian roullete with time...and it may be a money issue, a pride issue, or even for some a governent issue. everyone answers for his/her own decisions-dont sweat what other people have/dont have.
I think it's because they're too poor and can't afford it saying like "Oh, I'll be alright." Or, that they're too rich saying "I can afford to pay for the medical bills without discounts from inssurance."
MAYBE BECAUSE THEY PAY $130 A WEEK FOR INSURANCE
AND HAVE ABOUT 3 DOCTORS VISITS A YEAR.
TOTAL SPENDING $6760.00
People without insurance can go to the government hospital and will be treated for a very low price. Not only that, if you go to any E.R in any hospital you will be treated no matter what your income range is. Some other people think that they will never get sick. So even if by any chance they do get sick, they can just go to E.R. and will be treated. There are so many plans that hospitals have that lets you spread your payments so it is affordable.
Heh, ask my mother in law. She had a brain aneurysm, racked up 700,000 dollars in bills. Doesn't have a job, no money, no insurance. When it came time to pay the bills, the hospital called and said "Since you have no capacity to pay the bill, we're excusing all your debt".

Ask her.
My guess is that not many people believe they can get along without health insurance rather they can't afford it.
Hell, they can't afford it.

I'm retired, and old. Medicare and supplement is 1/2 my income, not counting SSI.

I can't do without. Had a bad dose of cancer.

When I was working I had to carry a $5,000.00 deductible.
Spent one day in hosp. for that. Plus doctor.
Lots of company out there, too.

A precious few have it free. Did I say "Free"?
We all paid the premiums in the products they produced, like cars.
Because they're healthy, and they wonder who all the unhealthy people out there are who they are having to pay for while getting no benefit. The problem is that these days, that's MOST of us. Part of this is due to the "downstream" illnesses that result from an unhealthy lifestyle (for instance, illnesses that are directly related or caused by obesity-related factors); we would be well advised to invest in wellness insurance instead of just health insurance (i.e., companies paying for gym memerships, diabetes education, etc.). Just my opinions.
