How often to get eye exam?

Question:
I am planning to get my presciption glasses replaced. My girlfriend says i should get an eye exam. i said why should i, and she says its because your eyes change over time. I have had the same prescription for about a year. Should i get another exam before getting new glasses?

Answers:
Usually you would follow the advice of your optometrist or ophthalmologist...every one to two years. It's not only a refraction you're going for, the docs will give your eyes a complete health check-up.

To Lucy...You may have had LASIK to rid you of your nearsightedness and glasses, but to go 3 years without an eye exam is 2 years too many. I have seen many people who had the surgery and may need a little touch up on their Rx.

You only have 2 eyes-get them checked .

Other Answers:
About a year is right. Most places won't sell you glasses without a prescription dated in the last 6 months or so.
Most insurance plans allow for one exam every two years. They feel anymore is medically unnecessary unless there is injury to the eyes.
you should get your eyes exam at least once a year your eyes do change over time, gradually, yes go get re examined
I think you are supposed to get them checked about once a year!

I had my short sightness corrected by laser surgery 3 years ago so now don't need any eye exams.

Good luck xxx
They recomend and eye exam every 2 years for glasses and every year if you wear contacts
once a year
I read on the internet that you should get your eyes checked every year if you have contacts, but every two years if you have glasses. Your girlfriend is right. Your eyes do change over time, but at some time your eyes stop changing. For example, my eye doctor said that my new prescription is only slightly stronger than my old one so my eyes are settling. You can wait another year if you want. But some places that you go to MAKE you take another eye exam before they give you glasses.
Every year because your eyesight changes.
