drinking with medication?

Question:
can you still drink sometimes when you are taking Zoloft ?

Answers:
I've never had a problem with drinking alcohol and I've been on Zoloft for years. Zoloft is not like an antihistamine or pain reliever which gives some type of immediate relief for something. It is a drug that is used to correct the chemical imbalance in your brain but you have to be on it for a period of time for it to work properly. I've never heard of any problems with consuming some alcohol while on this medication. But I always drink in moderation....maybe 1 or 2 only. I would imagine that if you consume too much it may have an effect on your mood. Of course, I'm not a doctor....

Other Answers:

The label on the bottle says not to, but you can ask the pharmacist when you get it refilled next time.
well any doctor will tell you that you shouldn't ....but i do ....i take 5 mg of paxil daily....so please use you're own discretion.....if you are severely depressed then i wouldn't because we all know that alcohol is a depressant....
Yes, but be careful, everyone reacts differently. Most people just get really, really tired (like don't operate a vehicle or try to look after the kids because you're going to sleep) if they mix though I have heard of some people becoming more depressed for a few days after. I would have a couple drinks every so often when I was taking Certraline (another SSRI but not in the same family is Zoloft) and I didn't notice anything unusual.
I'm guessing you're taking Zoloft for depression, and the recommendation is that you do not consume alcoholic beverages with psychotropic medication due to a possible bad reaction. But most importantly, alcohol is a chemical that causes depression, and you will be defeating the purpose of the medication.
Most of the time, drinking is not recommended when taking prescription meds because it enhances the effects of whatever drug you're taking as well as make you drunk. So you tend to get super-wasted. Probably not a good idea if you're on Zoloft. Drinking will lower your inhibitions anyway, and if you're having problems associating in society and taking Zoloft for it, you're probably going to wind up doing something you didn't want to or shouldn't have. I'd advise not, but it depends on you, man. *shrug*
Man, i wish i can give you a definate answer but i have never taken zoloft before. However, I have taken other meds and had a few drinks as well. Go figure
yes, but don't drive or use any type of machinery. Don't drink alot because it will effect the zoloft.
