ganglian cyst?

Question:
I have been diagnosed with having a ganglian cyst on my achilles tendon. I have to have it removed sugically and I am more than a bit nervous because of the location. I understand it is an unusual presentation for such a cyst. Any experiences to share? I have talked with my doctor, it is nice to hear from others who have actually had the same experience. Recovery, side effects?

Answers:
you didnt say whether is was irritated or you couldnt put on your shoes - look on the web about ganglian cysts - they are usually

1 - harmless
2 - tend to "move" - in terms of popping up in one place and then appear in another place. 2 of my children have ganglians on the top of their feet and especially by the ankles - there are times when there are none..sometime when there is only 1 but sometimes they can have up to three - they seriously look like extra ankles - but little to no discomfort, but - they are kids lol
3 - disappear on their own

Unless absoultely necessary dont opt for a surgery that can carry consequences get more information on this. there are many sites to refer to.

i have ganglian cysts in my wrists and i might have to get a needle procedure, where they poke it with a needle and air comes out

Had one on my wrist. They "aspirated"it (removed the liquid with a needle) twice and decided instead of doing that a third time to remove the whole cyst surgically. They said usually aspirating works the first time, if not the second, so they were surprised when it got big again within a month. It was a day surgery, and they numbed my whole arm, I was awake the whole time, no anesthesia was needed. After my arm "woke up" I wanted anesthesia! My arm hurt quite a bit, and I have had two major surgeries prior to this, so no wimp to surgery pain. But it only hurt severely for about a day. I have a scar on back of my wrist now, but no big. It doesnt bother me at all now. Before surgery the cyst really bothered me, I'm on the computer at work all day and it was painful to even move my fingers to type. Glad I did it. Good luck! Shelbo, they are not filled with air!
