I heard you cant die from cutting your wrists.. is that true?

Well, you can die if you cut them correctly and actually manage to bleed out enough. Mostly its attempted by young ladies who will quit after the first partial cut, because it hurts and they have a second thought. In cases where the person actually manages to cut both wrists, they pass out and the bleeding stops pretty much on it's own. That's not to say they aren't in bad shape from the blood loss, but still alive. I have only had one sucessful suicide in my career who cut their wrists. The artery which supplies the hand is not really that large, and it's difficult to cut completely. What usually gets cut is the vein, and the amount of blood lost usually seems to convince the person they have done enough. They lose enough to pass out, and are found. So although it is a possibitlity, it's not a good one. Which is why determined suicides choose other methods.

I'd say about 250,000 people who have successfully committed suicide that way would disagree with you.

It's possible to die that way but you really have to work at it. There are much surer ways to die.

Yes it is true. It isn't cutting your wrists that kills you, it is bleeding to death caused by cutting your wrists that kills you.

most often you only do it once .. not sure why .. maybe lost the use of both hands due to death

Of course you can die that way. You die from the loss of blood not from the area it comes out. If you manage to lose enough blood from any wound you will die.

I have read the responses you have got from this question and I find it very interesting. I am not sure why a question like this would come in your head. I think you should talk to your parents or your doctor or a counselor about this. And I think you should do it as soon as possible. I am very concerned about someone asking a question like this. You can die from piercing any artery, everytime your heart beats blood is pumped to the cut and out of your body. Unlike a scratch, artery punctures don't clot, so within 15 mins if you don't receive medical attention you're dead. So no, your statement is complete and utter bs.

Well it is believed that if you slice your wrists laterally (across the wrists) that after about 15-20 mins the blood will clot unless you are in a tub of warm water, now if you were to slice your arm open longitudely (the length of your forearm) it is said that even if you are found the possibility of stopping the bleeding is usually unsucessful unless some uses a tornique! If your feeling suicidal and need help and dont feel like telling a family member or friend, please find your way to the nearest Emergency Room and tell them you need to be committed for a short time due to suicidal thoughts. Tell them it's to protect yourself. They wont keep you in a padded room. They will just have someone keep an eye on you and give you something to help you sleep. Then possible get you the professional help that you need!

If someone cuts the wrists such that their blood leaks out they are going to die. If a person gets cut at any place where they bleed heavily they could die if not treated properly.

You die because you lose a lot of blood after that.

You can die from ex-sanguination any time there is uncontrolled bleeding that is not stopped. So if I told you that the blue lines in your wrist are veins or arteries, could you answer your own question?

Cutting in itself isn't necessarily fatal.
How deep you cut is what could kill you.

There are important veins in your wrists, that if cut to deep, could make you bleed to death.

I've been cutting for 9 years, don't recommend starting it.
