Using SOLPADOL as a painkiller following gall bladder removal operation?

Question:
I have been taking SOLPADOL as a painkiller following my gall bladder removal (cholecystectomy) 4 days ago but have now noticed that the information leaflet says that it should not be used following gall bladder surgery. Can anyone tell me why and what problems it might cause? One side effect that it may already have caused is constipation.

I would like some info on this before I call the hospital that prescribed SOLPADOL - I want to make sure they don't just fob me off with platitudes if this is a serious matter.

Thanks

Answers:
Solpadol is another name for the opioid painkiller codeine. The constipation is a recognised common side-effect.

There's no mention about avoiding use after any surgery. 'Phone your GP first thing Monday.

And good luck.
I would say to be on the safe side that you call your GP and check the suitability of this medicine.
I have taken Co-Codamol based painkillers (solpadol/kapake) for many years as I'm allergic to aspirin and ibuprofen so I'm well aware that there are a few draw backs.
Constipation is the top side effect. I would suggest you get some stool softeners if you can take them to help this.
Also never take this drug on an empty stomach, I tend to be quite ill if I do it and occasionally sick.
Please check to make sure you'll be alright and I hope you recover soon.
