What can be the cause of the numbness?

Question:
Last night my arms and hands started feeling numb. No big deal, I have the start of carpal tunnel, But then my face from the tip of my nose to my chin got numb on both sides. Not completely numb, but partway. Went to ER and they couldn't find a reason, but then they only did simple poke tests and listen to lungs and chest. This morning, it had improved, but then it only affected the left side of face. My shoulder muscles and neck muscles are very, very tight. I asked the doctor if that could be pinching anything, and he doesn't thing so. Any ideas? Very weird feeling. I am 42 yrs old, and have mitral valve prolapse and fibromyalgia.

Answers:
Do you have any other illnesses? Any type of cough, wheezing in your lungs, etc.? The reason I asked is because I had the same thing and then later I developed a nagging cough, night sweats, muscle and joint pain. Several years earlier I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and now they have discovered that I have an auto-immune disease. Nothing serious, they say it will go into remission in a year or so. A lot of people have this disease without ever knowing they have it, unless there are other medical reasons that make them go to the doctor. When this numbness on my face developed, my doctor said there are several illness that can cause this. If you feel you doctor is not concerned about this, seek another opinion. Some doctors are not up to date on the latest discoveries. I know, it took me several doctors before I was diagnosed. Good luck to you.
Sitting in one spot too long answering questions.
