Lately I have been waking up at night and my whole scalp is asleep. Is this something to be worried about?

You are possibly using too many pillows. Regardless, you are undergoing some form of cervical compression which is creating an anesthetic response to the nerves of the scalp. You may find relief by simply placing your pillow (or a rolled up towel) under your neck, rather than your head.
Blood supply to an area is not a part of the sensory apparatus. So we must remain on the neurological aspect. Which is the factor involved whenever there is loss of sensation.
