Why do my heels hurt when i'm walking and standing?

Question:
this pain spreads to the ball of the foot

Answers:
The person above me that said plantar fascitis is correct. Anti-inflammatories can help, but if not see a podiatrist. That person will give an injection of cortisone to get rid of inflammation. I know many people that have suffed this condition and it is very painful. Sometimes it can last for months and then spontaneously go away. The above suggestions are good, including changing the kind of shoes you are wearing, orthotics and just good pain management with motrin, advil, aleve.good luck.
its called heel spurs here is a web sight that explains what it is they can really hurt ,,,, hope this helps http://www.footcaredirect.com/heel.html.
You may have arthritis or a pinched nerve in your foot/feet. I have that problem in my right foot...the doc determined there was arthritis in my right foot. You may want to see you primary doc about this to find out what is going on! I hope that this helps!
Most likely "heel spurs".real name for this condition is plantar fasciitis. You can read about it on Webmd.com Need to see a podiatrist (FOOT DOCTOR). They specialize in this.have several types of treatment they can recommend. Sometimes people have surgery for this, but it has a poor record of success. Other treatments are just as good if not better. This condition often disappears then returns in 2 or 3 years.or 10 years. One thing that HELPS A LOT is to wear athletic type shoes with a VERY high arch. There used to be a brand of shoes called Cherokee that made shoes called Cherokee Rockers. I have also seen similar type shoes in some shoe catalogs. They have what at first feels like a tennis ball under your arch! It is a raised area..this position really relieves the symptoms and you soon get used to it. I wore these for years. Finally, I have no more heel spur problems. Here is a web site for the shoes.Rockersfootwear.com There are also several other sites, Just do a yahoo search for Cherokee Rockers. Good Luck.
you probably have plantar fasciatis. This is the actual tear of the fascia of the foot ( the layer between muscle and fat. It is extremely painful. I had to get special othotics made for my shoes. Try stretching your foot (toes toward your head) before you get up in the morning. Also tske a coke bottle and fill it with water and freeze it. Put it on the floor and roll yourfoot back and forth over it for about 20 minutes at a time. It is aggravated when you let your foot rest extended( toes pointed down and then flex it again. I had to get a brace to keep my foot flexed at night. You probably need to see a doc. Anti inflmmatories( Motrin, advil, ibuprofen ) is what you need to take as opposed to tylenol.Good luck
