Clearly, it helps control blood pressure as well as cholesterol and is a powerful anti-oxidant. In earlier times, through WWII in fact, it was used as an antiseptic for wounds. Cooked garlic is less potent than raw due to the loss of allicin when heated or even bruised. Apparently it is most potent in its raw form, such as in a delicious pesto. The only caution I may add is that if you are going to eat garlic, make sure the other people close to you are eating it too.
Lastly, it often works as a mosquito repellent in most humans or a flea repellent in dogs and cats. Be careful with pets not to give them too much as it definitely helps the blood to resist clotting. I try a sautéed garlic clove once per week in the flea season in an egg.
Well I know from personal experience that ginger helps to ease an upset stomach. I got sick while in a developing country and they gave me some ginger to eat and it calmed my stomach problems down a lot.
