Answers:
I'm not sure if you work in the U.S. or not, but if you do, your job cannot fire you as long as you have a dr's excuse. Also, make sure that your doc writes you a release for light duty. By law, your employers have to accomodate you. As for the meds, I don't know what will work for you except for physical therapy and that takes time. You can take motrin or aleve for the pain, and use a heating pad. Believe me, I know that back pain's a b**ch.
chiroprators are great healers but watch out for the quacks.
If this is happening so soon on the job, you may need to consider another line of work. The pain you're having is your body's way of telling you that something is WRONG. How much money is your back worth? If you have a herniated disc or a bulging disc, it could take months for that to heal. And with workers comp. claims these days, I doubt the factory will want to take a chance on keeping you and you getting injured further.
Does your work have a trial period? I can't think of the proper term for this right now, but basically the idea is that they can let you go for any/no reason in the first 30 days. That would be my concern.

I have bad back problems--an actual orthopedic problem with my spine, not just muscular. I've had all kinds of drugs from Demerol to muscle relaxants, etc. Oddly, the only thing that does a thing for me is Aleve (either the OTC or prescription version). I always recommend it to people.

For longer term, sounds like you need a good stretch and strengthening plan to keep your back in shape. Here is a book I really like:

Likely the cause of this pain is that your body is not conditioned to swinging that much weight. Your muscles are screaming what is going on here! If you continue to work in such pain, I know the pay is great, you risk permanent injury. I am a chiropractor and I have worked on many people in the trades where their bodies are a mess and they have chosen different lines of work because of it. Food for thought.
chiropractic has helped me for years in my industrial work. It may hurt the first time cause your back isn't used to being straight but after that I've been enjoying life. I have 6 kids and it's good to not have to collapse after work.
i don't think you will get fired. the doctor may prescribe anti-inflammatory. they are not pain killers but will help the body heal. Be sure to explain to the dr. that you do not want medicine to hide pain.
_You may also want to think about a back brace while you work. Also think about how you are swinging. Are you using the correct muscles? that kind of thing.
*the dr. may suggest heat or ice through out the day.
*Good Luck **
If you are really lucky, a chiropractor will be able to line you back up again, and you haven't done any serious damage, as in the previous answer. If so, your back will recover, but you obviously need to build up those muscles so they support your spine. Those muscles need to be warmed and stretched before you use them that hard. If, and that's a big if, you haven't really blown something out, then you will need to work those muscles every day before you go to work.
