Ask your physician to refer to to physical therapy. Your physical therapist will do a comprehensive examination to identify your causes of pain, impairments (decreased range of motion, strength, stability, etc), and limitations (can't play golf, can't work, etc). They will utilize modalities (ultrasound, electric stimulation, cold laser, ice/heat, etc) to control inflammation, swelling, and pain. They will show you come exercises to decrease pain and help solve your impairments and functional limitations to return you to your prior level of function.
