I get a cramp in left calf after 5 min of running. Stretching doesn't help. What can I do to prevent cramp? T

Question:
The cramp dissolves after a few days of rest and I can run again - until one day it comes back. These comebacks are becoming more frequent in recent years. I am almost 40, fit male.

Answers:
When do you stretch? I stretch a little bit before a workout, some during, and a lot afterwards. So far, it's working at holding off the cramps, but I'm a bit younger than you so you may need more.

You could also take a look at your diet. Potassium (bananas and potatoes) could be a limitation. You could also be cramping because you're dehydrated. Make sure you get sufficient water.

Other Answers:
eat more bananas. potassium helps with cramps. Also almonds

doctor it hurts when i do that.well ---dont do that,.,,,,ok ok.why not ask a doctor? soudns to me liek your not drinking enough water..nad/or not stretching enough more vitamins and minerals in your diet

Potasium and water or Propel or gatoraide might help ya out

Eat more bananas.I used to get cramps all the time in my legs, i've upped my banana intake, and it doesn't happen hardly at all anymore. Also, increase your water intake, that may help as well. Good luck!!

My dad and I get those sometimes after we run alot. I think stretching helps if you do it right b4 you start something. stretch all your muscles for about 5-8 minutes total. drink plenty of water, eat plenty of bannanas for potassium (which help prevent cramps) and make sure you take time to cool down before you stretch

I am a 30 year old male starting playing soccer again. Have not played in 7 years. I had similar problems, I was told by a friend to make sure that I drink plenty of water before and after excercise. Also eat BANANAS! They have potassium that helps prevent cramping in muscles. I was recommended to eat 2-3 per day.

I hope this information helps some. >proper warm ups and cool downs
>eat lots of potassium rich foods- banana, potato, etc
>drink oral rehydration salt before and during physical activities
