What is a good self treatment for an inflamed rotator cuff?

Question:
I lift weights often, i am an amateur powerlifter. I have pain in my shoulder when I lift my arm above shoulder height or rotate it backwards. it is pretty clear that the pain is in my rotator cuff. The pain is not that bad, and usually subsides after a few light sets of bench press. But some excercises have become impossible such as shoulder/military press. What are some ways I can help my rotator cuff not hurt?

Answers:
I've had the same condition 3x in my life. You need to rest the effected shoulder. If you don't, you can do damage. Your doctor will prescribe an anti-inflammatory and rest for a few days. He will then probably suggest building the usage of that shoulder slowly as to prevent reinjury (which, I have personally done). Listen to what he/she tells you and follow their instructions completely or you will risk needing surgery on that shoulder.
You need to have it seen by a professional. If you have a tear, you could be making things worse
soak in warm water, take vicodene 6 times a day, and become a junkie. Just teasing.
you should see a sports doctor or you may cause irrepairable damage.
the cause is usually bad form. maybe you could find a coach or pro powerlifter to give you some additional helpful hints.
in the meantime don't aggrivate it by lifting more and doing more exercise. it's a difficult joint and could cause you years of grief if you don't fix it...now!
good luck.
