What kind of doctor specializes in neck pain other than a chiropractor?

Question:
I don't know what's wrong, but it's been hurting for over a year. Ever since I gave birth to my daughter last June. Our family dr. doesn't think it's related, but I'm not convinved. The muscle relaxers he prescribed have no effect on the pain and I don't know what kind of doctor to see next. Any advice?

Answers:
orthopedic

Other Answers:
ortho or maybe neurosurgeon if it could be a nerve

edit: it very well could be related to your giving birth. Ever since my sister had her first baby and they gave her an epidural her back will pop and hurt for days afterward if she twists just the tiny bit off.
An accupuncturist.
I see a Orthpaedic Surgeon for my neck pain..Best to go to Specialist
You should try an orthopedist. They can do x-rays and an MRI to really look at your spine and everything related to it. I too have neck pain, it took an MRI of the neck to detect the problem.
i guess, you should get it checked out by an orthopedic or a neurologist. i hear, sometimes while delivering a baby some nerves get pulled due to the access activity require by the mother to push. its alway good to be sure than sorry.or something like that. all the best and stay healthy!! MOTHERS ROCK!
There is 3 options one Orthopaedic, Neurologist, Chiropractor I know you mention no chiro, and why not Acupuncture it works, for me, some times the shows that you used are bad for your posture cost the pain from neck down .
neurologist is the best thing to try first-he can recommend you to see an orthopedic doc if necessary

most neck injuires or problems are nerve related and the neurologist can order ct scans and a mri to determine what is wrong and go from there.
If you don't want to see a chiropractor then try a physical therapist. You may eventually go to an Orthopaedic. Good Luck.
a Neurologist.
ave to recall all the postural changes you went thru while pregnant.. If your doc didn't recommend certain things to do to reverse those problems before all the ligaments returned to the normal state, you are still in that same postural position..You will notice several changes which are obvious when checking them. Hip higher on one side, shoulder longer on one side, head perhaps tipped to one side, tail still too far out. but the neck pain can be attributed to the unequal muscle tension in that area.. the rotation from one side to the other will not be the same. There will be restriction of that rotation on one side. May want to try rolling up a towel and lay on it with it placed under the neck..

The only other doc who would be considered for such a condition would be an osteopath.. any other one will treat it only with meds.which does nothing for treating the existing problem. Only treats the symptoms.
