Yes, you need more sleep, younger people and kids need more sleep. You get your growth hormones while sleeping. 7-8 hrs may not be enough, 9-9.5 would be better. You just need to try to adjust your schedule and sleep hygeine. Cut off the caffeine around 5p.m. and see if that helps.
Trying take a bath at night to relax you before going to bed. Make sure you give yourself time to unwind in the evening.
In the afternoon, try working out or going to the gym, this will help you sleep at night if you don't already work out.

I do the same thing and have my whole life. No matter what I do I cannot get to sleep till 12-2 am but then end up hitting snooze on my alarm for about 2 hours and even when I do wake up Im still tired and cranky.
I believe its just that Im on the wrong schedule. I know that if I did whatever I had to do to be in bed by 10 that I would most likely be able to get up on time in the morning but its not that easy when you're a night owl.
You dont say how old you are, just that you arent old enough for meds, if your at least 14 or older I would say you can go to the drug store and buy some type of sleep aid and take it for a couple nights to help you go to sleep at a decent time and get yourself adjusted to the new schedule.
i go to sleep at 8:30 P.M almost everyday. and wake up at 6:00 A.M. that's how i don't get tired easily. maybe u should sleep awhole lot earlier since ur so young. i say 9:00 P.M is good for u.
Try to avoid caffeine, this makes you very hyber during the night so you can get sleep. Or try playing peaceful music so it unwinds your mind when you try to go to sleep. If your worried about something like taxes,death, homework, or etc. this might leave you stressed and cant sleep at night. Also, some other tips to peaceful sleeping is wash and clean your sheets everyday so you feel fresh and relaxed. Some other ideas that people sometimes cant go to sleep is because of there mattress, you might have a old lumpy mattress that is causing you to be cranky in the morning or causing back problems. Make a conscious effort 4 days a week to get to sleep by 10.30pm. Make sure all is done and you have had a nice warm bath or shower and are in bed by 10pm and clear your mind of any hassles. Breathe deeply. Make your breathing as deep as you breathe when you are just about to fall asleep and you will. If you do this 4 days a week, they don't have to be in a row, then the days you are up late wont be so wearing on your body.
i had that problem when i was in my teens i had insomnia so bad it does get better with time try a sound machine thunderstorms helped me alot to this day a swear by it
