This is actually true (to other answerers who didn't believe this). It is because machinery and equipment is designed for use by right-handed people - this includes everything from rifles to can openers. This means left-handed people are more likely to find it difficult to use equipment and be injured. And some equipment will actually kill left-handed people. For example, a type of shoulder-mounted rifle fires its empty cartridges so that they miss right-handed people, but if used by a left-handed person (and thus placed on the opposite shoulder) the empty cartridge is fired at high velocity directly into the user's eye.

Other things include that left-handed people are more likely to be involved in collisions. For example (and being left-handed myself I find this a problem), when people walk towards one another, to avoid colliding, they shift their direction slightly to their stronger side. As most people are right-handed, both go right and thus avoid one another. A left-handed person goes left instead, and walks straight into the other person unless they are also left-handed. This might mean left-handed people are more likely to be involved in car crashes or something.

Therefore - left-handed people do indeed have a lower life expectancy than right-handers. If you're left-handed - take care!

Omg is that true? I'm left handed too. im scared! Left handed people (of which I am one) have top struggle more in a world created for right-handed people. This can result in very slightly higher accident levels for us lefties. This brings down the average death age. But if we can avoid accidents, we live as long as the other lot.

I hope that's not true because I am left handed! However I heard a rumour that left handed people are more likely by 12% to be hurt in a car accident and left handed women are more likely to get breast cancer.
