My 5 year old keeps getting urinary tract infections, why?
Question:
Answers:
Don't let her take bubble baths.....I remember when my girls were young, their doctor told me that can cause the infections.
Other Answers:
no, but i think this is a problem with children that have been sexually abused.
I'm sorry to hear this about your baby girl. Maybe she is holding her urine in too long...Give her Cranberry Juice and Yogurt daily that helps.
My niece went thru this, but my ex-sis-in-law was letting her drink as much soda as she wanted, and it was a LOT. Once she finally cut back on soda and drank more of a variety of drinks - especially less sugary ones - she never had another. If she's drinking a lot of soda that might be a possibility.
Try having her take showers instead of baths. My nieces had the same problem, and the doctor had no explanation. But as soon as we did away with the bath water we did away with the UTIs also. Good luck. If you can not resolve the issue try a urologist.
does she swim in a pool alot? does she know the propper way to wipe? pools can cause that problem and so can not wiping propperly, front to back is right.
TRY TO MENTAIN HYGIENE,FEMALE URETHJRA IS SMALL AND STRAIGHT WHICH MAKE IT MORE PRONE TO RETROGRADE INFECTION
Has she been checked for labial adhesion's? Could be a possibility. Good luck!
sometimes little girls play with themselves this can cause it also when wiping after a poo can
NO BUBBLE BATHS
children develop urinary tract infections because they are prone to such infections, just as other children are prone to getting coughs, colds, or ear infections. Or a child may happen to be infected by a type of bacteria with a special ability to cause urinary tract infections.
Children who frequently delay a trip to the bathroom are more likely to develop UTIs. Regular urination helps keep the urinary tract sterile by flushing away bacteria. Holding in urine allows bacteria to grow. Keeping the sphincter muscle tight for a long time also makes it more difficult to relax that muscle when it is time to urinate. As a result, the child’s bladder may not empty completely. This dysfunctional voiding can set the stage for a urinary infection.
same thing happened to someone i know and the doctor said it was caused because the child wasnt wiping properly
he might be drinking too much iced tea. that's one reason for uti.
While my daughter hasn't gone through this, I did during my teen years
Is your child drinking enough water? Have you taken her to a natural therapies chemist? If I were you, I'd get her booked into a specialist asap. It will be worth the money if there is something seriously wrong. The antibiotics wont do her immune system or her teeth any good either.
yes, my daughter used to. Make sure you teach your daughter how to wipe herself when she has a bowel movement because the feces can easily get up into the urinary tract and cause infection. That is the main reason for little girls getting them, my doctor said to me years ago.
Please do not be afraid of the situation and continue seeking medical help until she is well. I had a niece who had the same problem years back. The same thing happened then when my brother had to bring her to the hospital for repeated treatment. I am happy to say that that young girl is now an adult, married with a child of her own.
Without knowing the bacterium involved, I can only make a suggestion. Often the infection is introduce via the genitalia, rubbing, or even insertion of a finger or even improper drying after micturation (urination)...try a mild vinegar solution wipe after urination and before bed. Too often physicians tend to use the pen (write a prescription) rather than use their heads...I am a physician. I do suggest limiting intake of soft drinks...keep the child on slightly acidic juices...orange, apple and such and restrict the intake of sugars as much as you can...difficult to do.
I had the same problem as a child and I am now in my 40 and the doctors have now only found out that the tubes from my kidneys to my balder and then out are to small and what is happening is my bladder is not emptying completely and some of the urine is staying in the tubes and i get one infection after the next. It got so bad that i have now got infections in my kidneys. I am going to hospital soon to have my tubes st reached it is not a big op but it is a necessary one. Have the doctors check your child out for the same problem.
I wish you luck and God Bless
Make her drink ALOT of water. When someone doesn't drink enough fluids... And I heard Cranberry juice could help. It prevents bacteria from adhering to the linings of the urinary tract.
Hope she gets better.
