how do i manually take blood pressure?
Question:
Answers:
It's hard as heck to take your own blood pressure. If you want to check your blood pressure, just go to Walmart or most pharmacies; they usually have an automated blood pressure machine.
If you really want to try, get a friend who's got some medical training to show you. It's better to be taught how, than to try to figure it out from written instructions. At your next doctor's appointment, you could just ask the nurse. Or bug the next paramedic that you see (LOL).
Most communities have health fairs, you could ask one of the nurses there.
Oh, and that "arm strangler"? It's called a sphygmomanometer. Talk about a mouthful!
Other Answers:
Wrp cuff around your upper arm, place the end of the stethoscope over the inner surface of your elbow, pump the cuff up until the pulse sound stops. Gradully let the air out of the cuff. When the pulse sound returns that is the upper number. When it stops, that is the lower number.
Find the pulsating artery on the inside (nearest your body) of the bend in the arm (use your index and middle finger pressed together and then press this area of your arm to detect the pulse) you have the sphygmometer (the blood pressure "thingy") on. Put your stethoscope on this artery. Pump the sphygmometer to around 150. Slowly let the air out of the cuff. Listen in the stethoscope for the beginning and the end of your blood whooshing. Note the numeric pressure on the indicator at the beginning (the systolic or top number) and the end (the diastolic or bottom number) of the whooshing sound.
If you don't hear a beginning whoosh (it's whooshing already when you start to let the pressure out), then you need to start at a pressure higher than 150.
you can't take your own it will not come out right because you can't take a proper reading yourself due to internal body noises, and the sound of your own heart.it will totatly be a wrong BP
