what are the health risks with air conditioning units in the home?

Question:

Answers:
I think that there are risks of Legionnaires disease if a unit is not cleaned regularly (condensation gathering in areas of the system). The main risk is that due to air being circulated around the house or building a number of times an hour, any germs coughed out by people will be circulated thoroughly too!
Occupational health websites will have information on this as many work places have air conditioning.

well ac r necessity in hot areas but they r hazardous too,,,they increase moisture in the room causing body ache and weakenig the bones,,,,,,,,,,,its bad for skin too,and the rom laks fresh air too, which is abviously dangerous
All of the above. I have one and its fine, just spray some disinfectant into the air inlets when you first use it while its turned on so it can clean out any possible bacteria.

Clean the air filter before use also and when you turn it off leave the cap off the water outlet so it can dry out. too many people put the cap on and trap in water which can then remain for a year and go all funky.

Many airconditioners actually reduce the moisture content in the air as this is one way it cools. This is why they have a water outlet.
