It could be a number a things...among them, some serious. My father had this problem and it was a bad infection (doesn't know from what) and he was getting septic (blood poisoning that can kill you) If you are also feeling sick...get in to the docs quick

Are you taking any medication?
If you are it could be a reaction. See your doctor.
I've had that happen before I raised my foot for a few hours.
Or...did you get an insect bite?
Like a said see a doctor.
your retaining water you need to elevate it up on a pillow up past your heart to get the swelling to go away
What do we look like ~ doctors? You need to see a doctor, a bunch of flakes on youqa.coms are not going to help you.
Edema is swelling of any organ or tissue due to accumulation of excess lymph fluid, without an increase of the number of cells in the affected tissue. Edema can accumulate in almost any location in the body, but the most common sites are the feet and ankles.

Keep it elevated if you can.

See you doctor and explain that you have "edema" in one of your feet. He won't laugh. There are several different conditions that can cause this. Some of the possible causes are fairly serious, so don't delay about this.

Could be too much body fluid. See your doctor. You may have to take diuretic tablets and modify your diet. Left untreated, it could lead to congestive heart failure.
