I had neck pain while in school too (a few years ago), and I was also an art student. I think stress, plus a lot of looking down at your work, etc. does not help. My suggestion is to try and do a little exercising every day or at least a few times a week. Even just a brisk walk around the block can help get your body loose. It can also help relieve stress.
Also try to focus on good posture all of the time. While looking in a mirror, see that your ears line up with your shoulders. That means keeping your chin in and your shoulders somewhat back and down. Bad posture habits strain muscles and ligaments.
actually you sound a lot like me right now. I have been having neck paint for about two months without any relief at all. Have you tried muscle relaxors and seen if that helps at all. Also if that does not give much relief then there is cortisone injects that you can try to see if that helps you pain
