If I don't tell the Dr I smoke and have surgery, will I die on the table? I only smoke 2 cigs a day.?

Question:

Answers:
Withholding information like this (or any info for that matter) from your doctor is not a wise choice.

Smoking (even 2 cigs/day) can, and does, significantly effect the way your lungs work. This is something the anaesthesiologist (the guy who puts you to sleep and basically has YOUR life in his hands for the duration of the surgery) needs to know...they need to know how many cigs/day and how long you've been smoking.

Do yourself a favor, tell your doctor. It is of no value NOT to tell him/her. What you tell them is confidential, and I'd hate to see you have problems in surgery.

Other Answers:
I don't think that will qualify as "smoking"....but if you're going for surgery, just stop. It won't be that difficult.
probably.
No, it's unlikely you will die for that reason...but why hide it from your doc? There may be particular reasons s/he should know that you smoke...
Probably not, but cigarettes affect your breathing and the way anesthetics work. Just tell them. Is it even worth the risk?
no you wont die, dr are trianed VERY WELL as to know what to look for if the slighest thing goes wrong. just go have the surgery so you can fell better. you will be fine
There is a possibility any smoking can take it's toll on a body 2 a day is over 700 a year. Within seconds the smoke pluralizes the cilia that is the fine hair in your lungs that cause mucus to move. Why would you lie? Easier to tell the truth and remember if no food or drink that will include smoking. I had to wait 12 hours because I smoke on thew way to the hospital for surgery they take it that serious then when I woke up I had to do all kinds of breathing therapy.
WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP THINGS FROM THIER DOCTORS?

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

if you think there is ANY risk of that----why risk it----just tell him---what will it hurt?
Its always good to be open with your doc. What surgery are you planning to do? Whether it is one or two or cartons, you have to reveal that to your surgeon!!
