Exercise for people with flat feet?

Question:
I was born with flat feet, lately i've gained a lot of weight and have started a diet. I do a quick 30 min walk 5 days a week, but it gets painful sometimes with my flat feet. Any tips on a cardio workout that's less painful on my feet and ankles? How can I ease the pain? Thanks.

Answers:
It's best for you to wear the proper shoes. You need to place inserts into your shoes to lift your arch. It would be best for you to go to a good shoe store for proper inserts for your shoes. That may help you in your workouts.

There are many remedies for people with flat feet and are trying to lose weight. Swimming and lifting weights can help. Using machines at a local gym with low-weight and several reps can tone up the body. Other suggestions include: the stairmaster, running on the beach, aerobics classes and gymnastics.

Good luck
Dude, I am 6'2", 240 or so and I have flat feet. I was up to about 260 at one point. Walking killed my feet too. However, running, playing basketball, softball, tennis, etc. doesn't bother my feet while I do it and really after for that matter.

I totally disagree with inserts that lift arches.that just bugs my feet. My feet are flat. If you put stuff in there that pushes on them, it is like stepping on a rock.

Basketball is my sport. I think playing sports keeps you on your toes more than down on your flat feet. I have the ankle thing too. Matter of fact, due to a sports injury in college, I am bone on bone in 1 ankle. It hurts in the mornings, changes of weather, etc. It will hurt a bit post hard workouts too, but not near as bad as my feet would hurt when I walked or jogged. I dont know about you, but walking makes me feel like lightning bolts are going through my feet! I can't handle it.just like you.

I dropped 20+ lbs over the past 6 months or so. I feel great. I dont kill myself working out either. I just have fun and do what I like to do, which is the most important thing buddy.

I am in good shape now. I would like to drop another 10-15 to get down to my "playing" weight. I probably will. I don't really even watch what I eat as much. I just dont eat late at night; I play softball 1 night a week and hoops a night or 2 a week.
For flat feet, you are advised to get a pair of orthotics. These are custom made arch supports. I got some from a Pedorthist and they have helped me.
Another thing that you can do is look at doing exercise in water because it puts less weight on your feet.
