Fractured rib 2 years ago, still hurts why??

Question:

I was involved in a serious car accident 2 years ago. I was a passenger, we were hit head on, and the seatbelt fractured my ribs. The xrays were'nt the best so the doctors said it wasnt fractured. weeks later it came to be that they were. Its been 2 years, and I would like to know whether anyone has heard of ongoing rib pain, associated with a rib fracture. I am going out of my mind, and since I do not want to take narcotics for the pain (have small children at the house) I think that my doctor thinks I am crazy. Please if anyone has heard of this, or knows anything about it HELP! I will be going back to the doctor in a few weeks, and it would be helpful if I knew that I wasn't the only one going through this.

My uncle was hit by a car almost 2 years ago, he broke almost all of his ribs, dilocated his right shoulder(he is right handed), and his right knee was hanging on by one muscle. The hospital only treated the "serious" injuries because he didn't have insurance. After all this he has still not fully recovered. He takes painkillers and they seem to work but then again he doesn't have to take care of small children. Good luck at the doctors, I just thought that it would help you to know that you are not alone.
