Which is worse health wise? being overweight or smoking? Please only serious answers?
Question:
Answers:
Smoking, definately.
Smoking hurts you negatively every tme you do it, while overweight people can still be very physically fit and healthy. Go to a local gym, and see how many "heavy" aerobics instructors you see there.
Then go to a bar and look at the skinny or average sized smokers.
Who coughs more? Whos skin is the clearest? Who do you think has the normal blood presure and resting pulse?
Overweight people dont say "Oh I need to gain a pound..." but smokers say "Oh I need a cigarette". Really, nobody needs a cigarette, but see- since smoking is so addictive, it is impossible to get healthy while smoking, unless you quit completely and for life, whereas an overweight person can live to be very old and healthy- even though they are overweight.
Its just happens to me more socially acceptable to smell like an ashtray, than it is to have even a small gut.
Our sociey is so messed up, lol.
Other Answers:
I personally think smoking is worse, although being overweight isn't exactly something people should aspire to be.
Smoking, without much doubt.
Of course it's a matter of degree. A 400 lb person has a higher disease risk than someone who smokes 2 cigarettes per day.
But all things equal, the smoker has a higher disease risk. Smoking affects SO many organ systems...the lungs, the cardiovascular system, the skin, etc.
This is an interesting question. I'm curious as to what prompted you to ask it!
Obesity actually has a higher risk of death then smoking.
I'd say they are about equal. they're both pretty hard on your heart, although, you can't get lung cancer from being over weight
overweight is worse
I would say smoking. I would also say smoking is harder to quit than losing weight. So if you have the strength to smoke then you have the strength to lose weight. Both are bad for you, both make you risk heart disease and make you feel like crap.
Well, they both have serious health risks, but smoking also affects the health of those around you. I'd address them both, if possible.
Both are complicated. Eating and smoking are both addictive. Both can be stoped. However, obesit can lead to serious life threatening complications. Even more than smoking. BIg food franchises thrive on peoples fattness for buisness. Obesity is bad, get on the treadmill and start cooking your own food.
Smoking and obesity both end a person's life prematurely, but smoking will negatively effect the health of people around them. Second hand smoke could also negatively effect someone who is trying to get, reminding them of the addiction. Smoking is definitely worse.
Smoking unless you are so overweight that you are unable to get any exercise at all.....then it is a toss up. Stopping both would give a person control back in their life and when they get old(and they NOW will) they will have a better chance of not suffering so much pain before dying. The thought of gasping for air made me quit smoking and the thought of not being able to get out of bed and having somebody else take care of my bodily functions made me stop pigging out.
