Answers:
do you have kids? if you do and are recieveing tax credits you should get them for nothing even if you dont have kids you will still be entitled to working tax credits which means you should still recieve your prescription free. also anyone that works has to pay for prescriptions. your wife should recieve free prescriptions though. ask you doctor next time you are there and he/she should give you forms to fill in and send away for you to get free prescriptions
I suggest you buy a yearly prescription, it costs about £95 per year, and then you can have as many prescriptions as you need.
Also, you can only get free prescriptions if you are on benefits or tax credits, so you may need to apply for these. Try asking your CAB to help you.
have a look here and see if you can get help. People on low incomes are entitled to help but I don't know how much you need to earn to be able to qualify but there is no harm in trying. You have nothing to lose.
If your wife isn't working due to health issues she should be able to get a valid medical exemption certificate. Anyone not working - so long as the relevant authorities know, are entitled to free prescriptions.
Are you signing on? If not, then you have to pay for your prescriptions.
When I applied for tax credits I recieved a card from the NHS for free prescription and free treatments for various things. Maybe you call your tax credit office and ask for this feature.
Look on the back of the prescription for all the things that you could produce as evidence that you don't have to pay. Ask your pharmacist to help if you don't understand it, as they will be the experts.
I can't imagine that you would have to pay in these circumstances. (Although sometimes the rules can be a little peverse).
if you are disabled in any way,or in receipt of ANY state benefit your entitled to free prescriptions see your local CAB or your GP might help good luck!
If you have an ongoing illness/disease, which is NOT likely to improve, you are entitled to free Meds for that illness/disease.
Having said that, one hopes that both your CONDITIONS ( the operative word.. NOT an illness/disease) will improve in time with therapy, drugs or self help. But a yearly prescription fee is available at a reduced rate for you at present. GOOD LUCK
I take it from your question that both you and your wife will be on these prescriptions for life due to your circumstances. I am diabetic and qualify for free subscriptions. However my wife is on tablets for high blood pressure and stress and she recently paid up front for her tablets, a yearly subscription, which worked out cheaper than paying each time she went to the doctors for a repeat subscription.
You state you are paying £42 every 2 months, which works out at £252 p/yr. I would ask about a yearly subscription and compare the price.
Hello Peter
Is above I would apply for a yearly prescription my family have for years and they will save you a small fortune. If you both were on DLA you medication is free, if even one of you are in benefit and you get DLA or Income Support the medcation is free just fill out back of perscription and sign it and take form - forms to chemist.
Hope this has helped, you and the wife take care.
£137 can't be your only income surely. Are you getting everything you're entitled to? Go to www.entitledto.co.uk to find out if you could get tax credits etc. If you can (or already do) then you should be entitled to free prescriptions.
ask your chemist for a hc2 form for getting help with prescriptins we on a low earings and we filled the hc2 out and dont pay for any perscriptins atall also you can get your travel expenses to hospital appointments paid back to you and free dental treatment just fill out the hc2 and send it off it takes about 4 weeks till you get an answer if you do get it the certificate it last for a year and must be shown to chemist or dental every time hope this is of help
Speak to the citizens advice you should be entitled to free prescriptions and probably more benefits as your on a low wage.
You can only get free prescriptions if you receive benefits like income support or family tax credit. If not, you could try to apply for a HC2 certtificate if you are on low earnings and they will decide if you are entitled to free prescriptions.
a yearly certificate would help, but ask your GP/Pharmacist if any of the melds would be cheaper to purchase
contact carer centre if u live in Manchester/also mental health organisation any part of UK.
