Wrist injury wont heal?
Question:
After 2 months of therapy, bottles of prescription anti-inflamatories, and as much rest as I can give it when Im not doing therapy, why wont the darn thing heal? How can I keep my wrist muscles from tightening up? Help!
Answers:
If you play the guitar A LOT you may have CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME...or inflammatory tendinitis. The carpal tunnel can usually be helped with surgery but tendinitis is not, unless they have discovered something in the last 20 years that WILL help. I have tendinitis in my left wrist from an injury a lonnnng time ago. The injury caused a cyst to grow inside my wrist over several years before it was big enough to be seen when I bent my wrist down. The cyst was removed but it had caused nerve damage & tendonitis that flares up to this day from writing (I'm a lefty), using the keyboard too much, cold weather, etc. etc.
I would imagine that the hand is a part that when injured takes a long time to actually heal, unless you are able to NOT use it at all. Since most of us do not have that luxury, the injury just keeps being aggravated. Swelling slows healing. What about a wrist brace to LIMIT movement? Even just at night. I keep one on around & when I have over done whatever & my hand starts hurting or tingling... I just put it on when I go to bed. If by morning it still bothers me, I wear it through the day..
Good Luck. I wish I could be of more help. Have you had it x-rayed or had an MRI done to be sure there is NO repairable injuries?? Pinched nerve, cyst (ganglion), etc. Maybe a visit to an Orthopedic Surgeon would do some good?
