Had a heart cathe. done on Mon. Allergic to electrode gel. What can I do to help stop the itching & redness?

Question:
Also had a EKG done about 2 weeks ago in the ER. From where the electrodes with gel were placed, there are marks on each side of my arm and on my stomach. Unable to wear a sleeveless shirt. It looks horrible. Also from the heart cathe. done on Monday, I now have 1 on each side of my back (upper), 1 on my side, 1 on my chest and 1 on my leg. They continue to itch and is still red. It looks like a burn (so to speak). No raised skin or anything like that. Call the dr. office and told by the nurse to just apply cortisone cream. Tried that and it continues to itch and the red patch is still there. What can I do?

Answers:
Cortisone is a steroid used in allergies and lots of other conditions. It comes in different strengths but you didnt mention what you were using. You could call up your doc again and tell him the situation. He could precribe you something stronger.Avoid applying anything else on the area affected.Things like soap could aggravate it.
Try some over the counter Benedryl but don't drink or drive with it.
