Is vicodin still potent after it expires?

Question:

Answers:
Best to toss expired meds. A pharmacist would most likely tell you the same.
RN in Ca.
GOOD FOR 1 YEAR
It tends to be more potent after it expires.
yessssssssss
It depends on how it was stored.
Vicodin (and all other medications if they are kept properly as in out of direct sunlight, and hot/humid temps) are good well after expiration dates. They don't get stronger or weaker.

I have a bottle of Vicodin and one of Valium that was filled in March of 1989 (yes 1989) that I take for severe headaches as needed (shows how often I get those wicked headaches thank you). Each bottle had 40 tabs, no refills. I still have 19 left in each. And they still work as I took one of each just this past Wednesday!

If you do a search, the USA Army did a test a few years ago on how long medication potency lasts for and they ffound antibiotics, pain meds, steroids, are good for at least five years.

I always say, save your meds you don't finish. You paid for them and never know if/when they may come in handy.
yes, more than likely it will still be fine. The biggest thing is this: (1) have you had it exposed it to sunlight? If it has been exposed to light the chances of it still being good or even good for you are really diminished. Also, make sure that this is a prescription for you. Never buy drugs off the street or even from a friend because you really have no idea what you are getting. If you do buy drugs from off the street., there is a website that you can visit. It is WWW.RXLIST.COM This is a very valuable tool as you can search imprint codes. The little markings that are on the pill. Simply type in what is on the pill in the box called imprint code and then when it provides you a list to choose from simply look for a description of your medicine. That way you will make sure that you are getting the stuff you think you are. Also a great way to make sure your pharmacist knows what they are doing is to go to WWW.DRUGDIGEST.ORG There you can put in the name of the medicine that you have and look for images of it. Now you can know for yourself if the meds match up this way too. I hope you feel better.
Yes most of those meds stay good for about a year after they expire. They will slowly lose their potency after that.
Yes, it would still be good but maybe not as potent as when you first got it!!!
