What to do next when medicines don't work?

Question: I have been having this cough for one month, and added on a real bad cold for last 2 weeks. I've taken almost 2 bottles of cough syrup, and more than 10 tablets of panadol cold, as well as those prescribed by the docs. But the cough and cold just don't go away. What's happening? What's next?
