For those people that ask for Marlboro and really want a variation of it, they should be told that us store clerks are not mind readers.
Be specific of what you ask for.
Why do the rest of us have to suffer for other peoples mistakes?

Other Answers:
I think the easiest thing would be if they just stopped smoking. Do something more productive like raise cattle and ship them over to Africa or visit old people in old age homes and bath their feet.
;OP
that job sucks anyways who cares
actually when I worked at a store and someone just asked for Marlboros, my question was, "Box or soft pack?"
I'm not a store clerk but that gets on my nerves too. Good Question.
technically, smoky, you should be asking for Marlboro Reds. that is what the clerk is waiting to hear. since the majority of smokers using that brand smoke Marlboro Light (according to marketing brand research) perhaps YOU should be more specific.
If this is the biggest problem in your entire existence, you should deal with it happily.
I always ask for Marlboro Reds in a box.. still I get the question.. soft pack or box..( didn't i just say box )
their are at least 5 different kinds of Marlboro cigarettes, reds, mild, 100's, etc.. if you want the plain old Marlboro say "Marlboro reds in a box." Cashiers cant read peoples minds and we need to let them know exactly what kind of cigarettes we want.
