Try not to drink caffeinated beverages and don't eat chocolate 8 hours before your bedtime. Sugar may also keep you awake. Don't excercise or eat right before bedtime. Do you live in a noisy area? Are you worried or stressed out about something? Was there a big change in your life a month ago? Stressful issues could keep you awake trying to solve them in your head instead of sleeping. I sleep with the TV on (on volume 7) and I get 8 hours, sometimes more if I don't set my alarm. I don't recommend TV sleeping for everyone but it works for me. Sometimes reading in bed helps too.

try drinking some wine or a beer before going to bed, it might help.
You need to balance your life and I would highly recommend doing more during the day. Doing some exercise would help.
I'm a Marine and doing things without sleep for a few days helps to get my body tyred and then I can sleep for a few hours(even with the loudest noises around on, haha)

I agree with burning brain. You need to be doing more physically in the day time so that your body needs something to rest from. Don't do anything exciting an hour or two before you want to go to sleep and don't think about stressful things too much when trying to sleep.
