Why to Asian people have bad eyesight?

Question:
In a magazine, it said that 70% of all high schoolers in China wear glasses or have bad eyesight. Is this a genetic thing? Thanks.

Answers:
Some oriental children may be reading too much. please let explain.
There is some scientific evidence that heavy reading during childhood ( and a commensurate, far vision when outdoors), causes abnormal growth to the eyeball so that that focus is not on the retina. (either in front of it or behind it),. So the retina gets an out of focus picture. The curvature of eyeglass lenses corrects that focus to bring the light to focus on the retina giving a sharp image.
There will soon be medications that will speed up or slow down eyeball growth in order to get the light to focus on the retina
Depending on the developing condition.

From squinting all the time.
Damn it, I have bad eyesight, and I'm not even Asian.
Maybe because they study, or a vitamin deficiency?
Bad eyesight is hereditary, it isnt determined by your race (I hope not). Maybe Chinese people just have bad eyesight through their genes.
There are alot of things that can be carried in genetics - For instance, Caucasians are more likely to have cystic fibrosis, African Americans are more likely to have sickle cell anemia, so eyesight could easily be genetic as well. Just being any one race doesn't mean that you will definitely inherit a medical condition, but certain medical conditions are more prevalent in certain races - and all races carry some genetic medical conditions - we're all people afterall.
Because they have little eyes.
alot of people have bad eyesight
THAT SHEIT HILIOURS FROM SQUINTING TOO MUCH.AND F*CKED UP.IM ASIAN AND YES I DO HAVE BAD EYE SIGHT..LOL
we all have bad eyesight.or eventually will.

Probably from all the UV rays from the sun and no eye protection or sitting in front of the PC all the time chatting or playing video games. There are many possibilities.and prob genetic also.
they close their eyes so much that their eyes are half way closed
A link between MSG use and poor eyesight?

In Asian countries, which are well known for copious use of MSG, not only is stroke incidence high, but poor eyesight is dramatically increasing. See the following links:

Rates of Myopia and stroke:

In China:

50% of teenagers in China today are nearsighted compared to 15% in the 1970’s:

Higher rates of myopia in Asians:

NOTE: Processed MSG has been used as a flavor enhancer only since 1908, when Kikunae Ikeda of Japan discovered its flavor enhancing properties. Contrary to popular belief, the Chinese have NOT been using it for thousands of years, but just shy of one hundred. Also, American food was devoid of it until after World War II.

See the source link below for more information on MSG and myopia.
Yes, I believe it is genetic. I think that spectacles were first invented in China . Marco Polo mentioned that he saw many pairs of glasses on his travels there in 1275.
There was a fascinating study of some island where, before it was touched by outsiders, everyone had nearly perfect eyesight. After it had contact with outsiders, everyone's eyesight starting getting worse. The only thing that changed was their diet - before they ate mostly fish and unprocessed foods. Afterwards, they started eating a lot of processed grains. And the eyesight of the community got worse.

So I have a personal theory (I'm sure other people have it too) that Asians have poor eyesight because they eat so much processed white rice instead of whole grains. Maybe a crackpot theory, I admit, but it's just a theory.
