Can hitting your head on a floor cause you to loose speech?

Question:
The person is awake and coherent just can not speak.

Answers:
It depends on how hard the head was hit. He/she may just be a little stunned, but if there are any other indications of brain damage, or if the loss of speach persists, you should get him/her to a hospital. Try asking questions, see if the person understands you, or try to get them to write answers down.
If the person's head was hit very hard, don't wait. When it comes to a person's brain, you shouldn't take any chances.
YES and get to the ER asap, as in right now.

They may have bleeding or fluid building pressure in the brain that can kill them - and they wont be so coherent then..

Did they do a CT scan or an MRI? Did they give follow up orders on what to do ? Does this person have insurance?

If they just released this person, follow their directions but if they gave none, then call the person's general physician in the morning and follow their directions. If they dont have a general physician, then call a neurologist and get in to see them asap.
every time you hit you head you loose some amount of brain cells, maybe that person hit it hard enough to loose their speech
Yes. There are two areas of the brain that affect speech. Damage to Broca's area can cause a person to not be able to comprehend speech spoken to them. Weirnick's (I probably didn't spell that right) area if damaged can cause a person to be unable to formulate words. I'm not sure if falling on your head could do enough damage to these areas to cause a loss of speech-- if this really happened I recommend medical treatment immediately!
