Can you boil contact cases to kill the germs instead of buying a new case every 3 months?

Question:
I've heard that you should replace your contact case every 2-3 months to prevent bacteria from growing inside your contact case.

I understand the concept, but it is really necessary? Let me know what you think! Thanks!

Answers:
Those cases are made of plastic, and plastic actually absorbs impurities over time. Boiling them won't get rid of those impurities. While I myself have used a case for more than three months, it really isn't a good idea to boil them for re-use.
By the way, you're getting a rotten deal from your eye doctor--mine provides solutions and cases for free with my contacts.
i put mine in the dishwasher
well..if u boil it..since the case is made of plasitc..it would melt
i've had contacts over years now and have never bought a new case..nor have i ever had an eye infection because of it.whatever you decide to do don't boil the cases.they're plastic and will melt.
well aren't they plastic? The heat could release some chemical bad for your eyes. What about rubbing alcohol? Maybe that's the same problem.
Don't know if boiling will do the joj, BUT may eyse sight is worth more than the cost of new cases
I'm guessing that by boiling them, they'll lose their shape.
But when you get right down to it, heck, you're throwing them away anyway.why not try it out? If it works, great, keep doing that. If not, then don't do it again.

----oh.and wait for the lense to cool before putting it back into your eye.
That makes perfect sense to me. I recently got fitted for contact myself and was wondering if i should try to clean the cases up without throwing them away. But then i thought, isn't it worth 20 bucks a year to have a little piece of mind when it comes to my eye sight.
