Any ideas why this happened?
Question:
I kept massaging my nose as it was still really sore. Next thing I knew my lip started to go numb and I it started going up my lip to the top of my nose and right round my sinuses.
30 mins went by and I started to get a bit worried. Then eventually I heard a hissing noise coming from my nose and all the soreness went away and 30 secs later the numbing aswell.
Weird.
Answers:
First off, holding in a sneeze is NEVER a good idea. When you sneeze, you're moving all kinds of bacteria from inside of you to the outside. If you hold the sneeze in -- you're spreading the bacteria into your sinuses -- increasing your risk (by a huge amount) of a sinus infection.
Secondly -- holding it in increases the pressure -- that could have temporarily stunned a nerve -- which would explain the numbness, maybe the hissing was a release of pressure, then the nerve function returned.
Watch for that sinus infection -- if you get symptoms, see a physician.

allllllllllllrighty then
yea wow. never heard that before. i have no clue why it happened. Sinus blockage is my guess. And somehow it pinched a nerve.
lol! No ****. Thats weird - like a pressure cooker.
It sounds like when you held that sneeze that your sinuses clogged and made the numbness..
I have no idea, but how interesting. I don't think you should hold your sneezes anymore! I find if something distracts you like being tickled or punched the need to sneeze goes away. I think that's weird too, why should it make a difference? Honestly i have no clue. But when i have to sneeze, and have to hold it.Later i would walk away and grab a Kleenex and blow my nose.Maybe the numbness was cause from you not being able to sneeze.and it just backed up..I hope that made sense.
That's becus of the pressure built up in the cavities of your head, like in your ears, turbinates in your nasal areas. Try not to hold a sneeze again. that preassure can be up to 600psi.
Weird indeed.have you read the latest story in the news about a boy who had a brain hemorrhage after having a sneezing fit!! Who would have thought a nose trumpet could cause that amount of damage
u closed ur nostrils while sneezing, this forced the posterior part of ur tongue to hang up the soft palate, and the building apressure from the nasal cavities down to the mouth. that caused the numbness. u are aite mate. weird, thats happened to me before its quite scary isnt it
what were you drinking? might have got something in your nasal cavity to cause it.
