Why does the area under the tounge become swollen?

Where exactly under the tounge is it swallon. What does it look like under there; color, are there any sores or lesions. For the basic's, maybe you are allergic to something and it irratated the muscles, nerves, and or lymph nodes under there. Is everything else on/around your face and or body seem to be ok?
