i got a paper from the dr today and it said that one of my liver tests was abnormal/high what does that mean??
Question:
Answers:
Some lab tests can detect problems but they don't pinpoint the problem exactly. Some elevated enzyme tests can occur when it is a liver or gall bladder problem. The doctor now has a hint but must perform the other tests before a definite answer can be determined. So, do not worry and take care of yourself.

Call your doctor, and go have the other test. Jeez!
Why did you go in? That would help. Did you have mono or something? Liver tests can be abnormal and then be ok later depending on what the problem is. You need to be more specific. It could be a lot of things. Are you having abdominal pain? Maybe it's your gallbladder. Ask your Dr.
It means there might be something a little off, but not usually. If the doctor was really worried, you'd be in the hospital- he's just being thorough. I got test results back one time that said my white blood cell count was really low, and it freaked me right out. It turned out that my body was fighting off a flu and won. That was all. It's worth getting the next test, just to be safe, but don't worry about it until the doc tells you to. For one thing, stress is bad for you to. Also, it's always okay to call your doctor and ask him to explain anything you don't understand. Medecine isn't magic, and everything should make sense. If he won't explain it to you, you should shop around for a friendlier doctor. Feel better! :)
The liver is the sewage treatment plant of your body. Blood goes through the body, picking up garbage, and takes it to your liver, which then breaks it down or throws it out so that your blood is ready to take fresh nutrients etc to the rest of your body.
When a liver test comes back abnormal or high, that means something is wrong and the liver isn't doing its job right. There are a lot of ways that this can happen, and some are more serious than others. That's why your doctor wants to do another test, to see what exactly is going on with your liver and make sure that the results weren't just because of contamination or a bad test of some sort. Possibly, your liver is not filtering like it should.
