Yoga!! I know it sounds weird but it helps. I had back surgery a few months ago for a herniated disc and i am 28. The meds didn't help and personally i cant function properly on pain meds. I went to a chiropractor(DONT do that) and it was worse. I find that alot more pain is added due to the stress of being in pain. For back pain they also have those heated pads that you can stick on the painful area but its temporary. I found that yoga and different exercises deisgned for the back help relieve alot of the pressure. Do you have lower or upper back pain?
heating pad on low
If you can, make an appointment with a good Chiropractor. Its incredible how after a few visits you feel so much better.
Honestly, if you have had back and neck pain you would be best served by seeing a doctor.

About 80% of the time, pain will resolve itself in 6-8 weeks with conservative therapy and rest. Conservative therapy can include any of the following: pain medication, anti-inflammatory medication, muscle relaxants, physicial therapy, chiropractic, accupuncture, massage, TENS unit, oral steriods, epidural of steriod into the spine.

If you are taking medication, you may have already seen a doctor. Has a spine problem such as herniation or structural problem been ruled out?

If your syptoms persist, you may want to see a spine specialist and see what he recommends. You can find one at www.spine.org

Best of luck!
