Well done!
Are you doing any exercise? Sounds like you may be replacing the tobacco with unhealthy food choices or portions.
That can happen for a while.
Watch the portion sizes but consider you're already on the road to recovery. way to go!
Other Answers:
start eating healthy
take a run every once in awhile
Exercise and don't use food to replace the cigs. Yeah!! watch portion size, chew gum, drink water, exercise. Hang in there! Yeah!!
My niece, who will celebrate her year anniversary of not smoking said that she initially gained some weight, but now she is starting to lose it. I agree with the others who said try to eat healthy and exercise more. Congratulations on quitting..I'm hoping to soon.
instead of eating crap, have fruit or drink water. and start walking.
When I quit smoking I chewed gum instead of eating. I went through a lot of gum, but it was cheaper and healthier than cigarettes. I also found things to do with my hands. You can take up knitting, or crocheting. Both keep your hands busy. Good luck. Go for a walk, 30 minutes per day as long as your doctor clears you for walking. Also, reward yourself. The times that triggered you to smoke (i.e. after a meal) do something just for you. Plan ahead with different activities and reward yourself for doing something worthwhile. You will be surprised at how much the "me time" will help. Good luck, what you are doing is great for yourself and your loved ones.
Everyone is right, stop with the unhealthy food and large portions. Exercise, and I I tried, sugarfree/fatfree popcicles and carrots. They helped alot.
Good for you man!
Buy yourself a "pedometer", (A device that measure how many steps you take) and try to attain 10,000 steps a day. Walking is great excersize and keeps you busy. You will notice that you like to see the numbers go up and up which will inspire you to do more and more! It is working for me and it is amazing. The average Amish man walks 18,000 steps a day, the average Amish woman walks 14,000. I find that inspiring. Also I wanted to add congratulations on quitting smoking! YaY! You kick butt!
Your gaining weight because your depressed and angry and keep on drinking and eating. Take it easy (emosinaly) talk to someone, even just a friend, walk around town with friends, eat healthy, lay off the grog and you'll be fine. Good luck, but you don't need it.
Check out the national stop smoking website (sorry, don't have the address), there's lots of helpful hints and tips for quitters to help you through all symptoms of smoke withdrawal. Unfortunately nicotine is an appetite decreaser so your appetite will increase now, many people substitute smoking for eating as it gives them something else to do instead of lighting up. You must look for more healthy foods that you can snack on continuously without the extra worry of gaining weight. Congrats for the last month, well done! Keep it up, I know it's hard but it's worth it in the end. x WAY TO GO! The worst is behind you now!
This is what I do! Hope it helps!
I munch on celery and carrots when I'm in between meals and I just have to have something to munch on. I've also learned that adding protein to my diet will help me stay fuller longer so I don't get tempted to hit up candy bar aisle! When I eat dinner now, I don't use a full sized plate anymore. I use the smaller plates, like an over-sized saucer, and I fill it up. After I finish what's on my plate, I make myself wait a full 15 mins.I've never been hungry after that.
Watch what types of foods you eat.
Stay away from too much sugar and anything that is starchy. <---(This one is hard for me!)
Make sure you get plenty of exercise and drink LOTS of water!
Quitting smoking does not make you gain weight..over eating does. Well, control your diet.stop pigging out! For the weight problem, go to your nearest Natural Health Store and ask for Aloes from Cape, South Africa. My mom took them and she lost weight. It is a natural colon cleanse. And try taking up sewing or go on vacation.
