turn comp off and tv off an hour before you want to sleep. read or do something relaxing. Bath maybe. Use oils. Chamomile and or lavender. two drops in an egg cup of milk swirled into bath water. also, massage your feet with 4 drops of lavender in any oil (olive oil is fine even) just before bed. Is an amazing soporific effect and even better if someone else does it for you but must be quite firm pressure on sole working from under toe to heel.
well if you've tried them all then we can't help you!!

reading helps me fall to sleep...
have you discussed this with your doctor? perhaps when you are ready to wind down, your mind is not, it keeps racing therefore you're unable to go to sleep. you might need to take ambien or lunesta (both are pills to help you relax to go to sleep). you need to devote 8 hours of sleep to these pills.
also you might be falling asleep, and then never entering REM sleep (rapid eye movement). there are different cycles to sleep, and REM is the one that you get your best sleep in, the longer that you are in REM the more rested you will feel in the morning.
you might also have sleep apnea (problems breathing while sleeping), and you might need to have a machine that will trigger your brain to breath better while you are sleeping (it is called a
c-pap or a bi-pap machine). people that experience sleep apnea often times wake up throughout the night because there brain is telling them to breath (it does this subconsciously), you don't even know that this is happening.

if you have tried all of the herbal and relaxation remedies, then it is time to get to the doctor for a sleep study. that might be able to tell you more.
I have had 4 surgeries on my head and neck this year, so I know what it feels like to have difficulty sleeping (it's hard to sleep when your head and neck are sore). It helps if you exercise during the day and avoid caffienated drinks (especially in the evening). I also found that avoiding snacks near bedtime helps too. I now use a product called Melatonin as a nighttime sleep aid. It comes in both pills and strips (I prefer the strips). It really works for me and it is available over-the-counter.
Read the Microbiology textbook and have a glass of wine.

Go for a run. At least 20 minutes outside, not on a treadmill. Come home and take a hot shower. You will be knocked out.
avoid coffee which keeps you awake and sleep at the right time to get better sleep
Do you drink a lot of coffee? I had real trouble with my sleep patterns a while back and eventually realised that it was down to the amount of coffee, tea, and coke I was drinking. Could be that, if so try cutting down or elimiating altogether it worked for me.
Otherwise there are some good over-thecounter herbal remedies that work.
read a dictionary
